Vice President, Membership & Business Development

Job Summary: 
The Vice President of Membership & Business Development is a leadership role responsible for driving membership growth, retention, and revenue while strengthening relationships with the business community. This position leads the strategy and execution of membership recruitment, renewals, sponsorship development, and corporate partnerships to advance the organization’s mission and long-term sustainability.
 
Minimum Qualifications and Education Required:

  • Associates or 4-year college degree desired.
  • 7-10 years of experience in membership, sales, business development or relationship management.
  • Experience in Non-Profit, Chamber, Association or a membership organization a plus.
  • Experience in managing a sales pipeline.
  • Experience in managing a high performing team.
 
Essential/Primary Job Duties:
Membership Strategy & Growth:
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive membership strategy focused on growth, retention, and engagement.
  • Set and exceed revenue goals of membership renewals and new memberships.
  • Lead efforts to attract new members, engage and retain current members.
  • Develop and oversee membership recruitment campaigns and initiatives such as the annual membership drive campaign, Membership Madness.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including potential members, partners, and sponsors.
  • Develop proposals and presentations to secure business deals.
  • Track, analyze and report on financial performance, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Identify and implement cost-effective strategies to maximize resources.
  • Regularly develop and report on membership and business development activities and results to senior leadership and Board of Directors.Identify target industries and companies for recruitment 
  • Build scalable systems for onboarding, renewals, and member lifecycle management.
 
Business Development & Sponsorships
  • Lead sponsorship and partnership strategy for events, programs, and initiatives.
  • Cultivate relationships with major corporate partners and investors.
  • Collaborate with program teams to package sponsorship and engagement opportunities.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities and partnerships.
  • Develop and manage the membership and business development budget.
  • Partner with leadership to identify high potential partners, develop and execute strategic campaigns to generate partner meetings, proposals and revenue. 

Relationship Management
  • Serve as a senior relationship manager for top‑tier members and sponsors.
  • Meet regularly with CEOs, executives, and community leaders to understand needs and opportunities.
  • Ensure members receive value and visibility aligned with their goals.
  • Represent the organization at key meetings, events, and community functions.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Grow volunteer support for organizational programming and initiatives, and inspire and guide volunteer leaders, including committee chairs and Ambassadors.
 
Team Leadership & Operations
  • Lead, coach, and develop the membership team, which includes Manager, Membership Relations.
  • Establish clear KPIs, accountability systems, and weekly performance tracking.
  • Oversee CRM data integrity, pipeline management, and reporting.
  • Foster a culture of service, professionalism, and a results oriented environment.
  • Foster a positive and productive team environment.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as marketing, sales, and events, to enhance member offerings and drive revenue. 

Collaboration & Advocacy Support
  • Work with policy and program teams to align membership interests with advocacy priorities.
  • Help communicate legislative and policy wins to members.
  • Support events, campaigns, and initiatives that strengthen member engagement.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent communication, both written and oral, negotiation, and relationship-building abilities.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to execute plans effectively.
  • Proficient in using CRM systems and other business development tools.
  • Results-oriented with a track record of achieving targets.
  • Confident and enthusiastic.
  • Ability to create a positive impression of the Chamber while responding to members either by telephone, email or in person.
  • Proven success meeting revenue or growth targets
  • Strong leadership and team management experience
  • Must be okay with cold calling, canvasing and heavy email activity.
  • Must be able to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
  • Ensure that all activities comply with organizational policies and standards.
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of all Chamber products, services and programs.
  • Be familiar with, and abide by, the Chamber’s policies and procedures.

Environmental and Physical Requirements:
  • Flexible work schedule, with some early morning, evening and weekend hours.
  • May be required to stand for extended periods.
  • Vehicle and valid driver’s license.
 
Compensation: $75,000 annual salary plus commission with on target earnings in the range of $110,000 - $150,000.
