Job Summary:
The Chamber of Commerce Hawaii seeks an individual to be the Manager of Education. The Manager is tasked with working in partnership with the Chamber’s Vice President (VP) of Education and Associate Director (AD) of Education in support of career exploration, work-based learning (WBL), and workforce development for students at select Hawai’i Department of Education (HIDOE) High Schools and/or Middle Schools. The role acts as a bridge between school administrators, educators, & staff and the business community to execute high-quality in-person and/or virtual WBL. Under guidance from the VP of Education, the Manager will work in partnership with key stakeholders from the state HIDOE, University of Hawaii, Hawaii P-20, philanthropic partners, public sector partners, the Chamber’s Education & Workforce Development team, and other key stakeholders and partners. 

This position will assist in overseeing and managing current work-based learning partnerships between select businesses and HIDOE high schools that support student WBL Awareness, Exploration, Preparation and Training and encourages education attainment beyond high school. Activities include, but are not limited to the coordination of virtual career fairs, mock job interviewers, job site visits, guest speakers, and securing in-person/virtual internships. Responsibilities consist of the planning, coordination, and execution of WBL which may include events, meetings, and programs focused on engagement between businesses and partner high schools.  This position may also work with other Chamber departments, as required, to promote this initiative. 


Minimum Qualifications and Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree, Associate’s degree, and/or Education Certifications are required.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Enjoy’s working in a fast-paced, multi-faceted environment.
  • At least 3 years of experience in education / non-profit work.
  • PREFERABLE: Teaching and program planning background.
Essential/Primary Job Duties:
  • Collaborate with key public and private sector CTE and WBL leaders in the state for alignment and shared learning under guidance from the VP of Education.
  • Manage and maintain relationships with high school, middle school, and elementary administrators, staff and faculty.
  • Lead, plan, and execute assigned WBL activities.
  • Lead one Chamber Education signature program.
  • Support industry Sector Partnerships together with the Education and Workforce Development team.
  • Manage and update Education and Workforce Development WBL dashboard.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with businesses that create both remote and in-person work-based learning opportunities for high school students.
  • Co-create periodic reports to satisfy grant requirements.
  • Provide support on workforce development initiatives to the Education & Workforce Development team.
  • Schedule speakers, vendors, and participants for WBL events and programs. 
  • Propose new ideas to improve the initiative planning and implementation.
  • Create graphics, videos, and marketing materials for WBL experiences
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities.
  • Must be extremely organized, detail-oriented, professional and able to multi-task.
  • Must be able to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
  • Must be fluent in Google suite such as Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc.
  • Experience in customer service.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent telephone/virtual meeting skills with a thorough knowledge of communication etiquette.
  • Ability to collect and manage data in a secure manner.
  • Flexible and possess the ability to quickly and smoothly handle unanticipated changes and needs.
  • Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
Environmental and Physical Requirements:
  • Flexible work schedule, with some early morning, evening and weekend hours.
  • May be required to stand for extended periods. 
  • Able to lift 30 pounds.
  • Vehicle and valid driver’s license.

Note About Role: This role falls under the Hawaii Chamber of Commerce Foundation. The Foundation is
primarily grant-funded. This role is a grant-funded position, contingent on the continuation of grant
funding.
