Power Systems Engineer

Summary: Forever Oceans is looking for an adventurous and technically strong Power Systems Engineer to help design cutting and sustainable power systems for the offshore aquaculture industry. Successful candidates will be motivated, growth-minded individuals with a strong foundation in Complex marine Power Distribution system design. Forever Oceans policy requires that all employees receive a COVID-19 vaccination.

The position is a full-time position working out of Forever Oceans’ Research and Development Center (RDC), which is located in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. 

Responsibilities:

  • Design and prototype next generation Power Distribution systems for offshore aquaculture Farm systems.

  • Perform all aspects of Power system infrastructure design and analysis work for offshore farm projects.

  • Perform complex power analysis of Low voltage AC and DC power distribution systems.

  • Write and maintain power infrastructure specifications and accompanying documentation, including bills of material, systems drawings and technical instructions.

  • Perform complex power systems analysis and evaluations of operational systems.

  • Write system integration and testing procedures based on user defined functional requirements.

  • Perform arc flash analysis and coordination studies of new and existing power infrastructure.

  • Perform and support ongoing testing and updating of prototype electrical systems and subsystems.

  • Support junior engineers with design review and technical oversight.

  • Support installation crews with technical information and attend construction and system integration meetings as necessary.

  • Coordinate with stakeholders to prioritize development deliverables and improve over all system quality.

  • Be part of a multidisciplinary team and collaborate with teammates on a daily basis.

Desired Experience:

  • BS/BEng in Electrical Engineering or related field OR equivalent experience.

  • Professional Engineering licenses with 5 years experience designing and evaluating low voltage marine or industrial power distribution systems.

  • Strong fundamentals in renewable and off-grid power systems design and analysis.

  • Understanding of AC (both single and three phase) and DC power systems.

  • Experience working with CAD software, specifically the Autodesk software suite.

  • Strong knowledge of standards and practices for marine power distribution system design and construction.

  • Experience performing arc flash analysis surveys and and coordinating studies for redundant and marine systems.

  • Excellent knowledge of applicable codes such as NFPA 70E, NEC, ABS, and IEEE standards for the marine industry.
