Pack with a Purpose! Led by the YP Wahine Committee, join us for a volunteer event in partnership with Books 4 Keiki to sort donated children’s books and stuff into backpacks. Connect with like minded young professionals and support Hawaii’s keiki and literacy development. Show up to give back, connect with fellow “do-gooders” or donate books for keiki.
Books: We are seeking donations of new and gently used children’s books suitable for children aged 3-6 years old. You may purchase books locally or through Books 4 Keiki’s Amazon Wishlist. Books not on the wishlist are welcome as long as they meet the criteria below. Book donations will be accepted at all YP events from now through the end of May. Alternatively, you may drop off book donations directly to the Chamber of Commerce Hawaii’s office at the Pacific Guardian Center (733 Bishop St., Suite 1200).
Book criteria:
Age range: Pre-K / Kindergarten (age 3-6)
New or Gently Loved Condition, all pages are intact
Bonus - Culturally complementary to the people of Hawaii
No religious books
Connect: Enjoy light refreshments while packing backpacks and learning how Books 4 Keiki is supporting our local community. This event is family friendly, bring the keiki of all ages as they will be free of charge. Do you have kids that need volunteer hours, bring them to volunteer. Are you a working parent that wants to incorporate your kids into your career life, bring the kiddos!
About Books 4 Keiki:
Each year, YP Wahine selects a local non-profit organization to support. Past beneficiaries include Parents And Children Together and Mai Movement. This year, we are proud to support Books 4 Keiki, a local non-profit co-founded by a YP member.
Books 4 Keiki's mission is to promote early literacy development and create excitement around lifelong learning through access to books. Their goal is to one day be able to support all Title I Pre-Kindergarten programs statewide through sustainable growth and partnership with the schools, by providing books and supplies to foster literacy. Books 4 Keiki believes that increased access to books in the home will lead to increased literacy.
