Saturday, November 12, 2022* marks the date of The American Diabetes Association's Kiss a Pig celebration! The celebration will begin with guest speaker Dr. Alika Maunakea's review of his initiative to reduce Health Inequities in Hawaii. Following will be the Kiss a Pig Luau.
What is Kiss a Pig?
It's a unique and hilarious American Diabetes Association fundraiser with a serious message. Its purpose is threefold:
1. To increase public awareness about diabetes and the American Diabetes Association.
2. To encourage prompt diagnosis and proper treatment of diabetes.
3. To raise funds to support research, education, services, and advocacy programs.
Why a Pig?
Kiss a Pig celebrates the monumental role of pigs in the ongoing fight to Stop DiabetesSM. Pigs were the first source of life-saving insulin for people with diabetes. Today, people with diabetes can use synthetic insulin equivalent to the insulin produced by the human body. Through Kiss a Pig, we celebrate progress against diabetes and celebrate pigs for their important contributions to people living with this deadly disease!
