Dr. Carl Bonham
Executive Director & Professor of Economics
The Economic Research Organization at the University of Hawaii (UHERO)
Carl Bonham was a founding member of UHERO in 1997 and currently serves as UHERO’s Executive Director and Professor of Economics. Carl’s research interests include macroeconomics, applied econometrics and forecasting, tourism economics, and the Hawaii economy.
His current research focuses on mixed frequency models for nowcasting inputs for UHERO’s quarterly Hawaii Forecasting System. Recent publications include, "Long COVID and Unemployment in Hawaii" with Ruben Juarez and Nicole Siegal in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, "Forecasting in a Mixed Up World: Nowcasting Hawaii Tourism", with Ashley Hirashima, James Jones, and Peter Fuleky in the Annals of Tourism Research, and "A Policy Analysis of Hawaii’s Solar Tax Credit" with Makena Coffman, Sherilyn Wee and Germaine Salim in Renewable Energy.
Dr. Bonham has served on the State of Hawaii Council on Revenues since 1996, the House Select Committee on Covid-19 Economic and Financial Preparedness from 2020 to 2021. He currently serves on Governor Green's Build Beyond Barriers Working Group and is on the board of Child and Family Services.

As a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA), Franklin focuses on providing distinct wealth management services to high-net-worth families and business owners. His approach includes innovative financial planning, estate planning strategies, portfolio management, risk management, cash management, and business succession planning.
Franklin collaborates with business owners to develop business succession and personal financial plans that align to help achieve their goals. A successful business succession plan will train the next generation of leaders, account for contingencies, protect the value of the business, and maximize the after-tax value the owner will receive.
Before joining Morgan Stanley, Franklin was a Private Wealth Advisor with First Hawaiian Bank, where he helped many high-net-worth families and business owners create comprehensive financial plans and build confidence that they were taking the right steps to achieve their financial goals.
As a board member of the Hawaii chapter of the Financial Planning Association, Franklin is committed to enhancing advisors' skills and maintaining the highest possible standards of ethics and integrity in the profession.
He lives in Honolulu with his wife, Maria, and their two daughters, Clara and Aspen. In addition to all their sports and extracurricular activities, they enjoy trying new places to eat and taking trips whenever they can.
