The Hong Kong Business Association of Hawaii proudly presents a roundtable discussion by Mr. Ivanhoe Chang, Director, Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco and Dr. Richard R. Vuylsteke, President of East-West Center on their prospective for Hong Kong Special Administrative Region marks its 20th anniversary return to China, and the China's Belt & Road Initiative.
"One country, two systems" is a constitutional arrangement for Hong Kong's return to China in 1997. Hong Kong enjoyed the "China advantage", and free movement of trade, capital and information, the rule of law, as well as a simple and low tax regime. The combined advantages of "one country" and "two systems" have made Hong Kong the "super-connector" between the Mainland of China and the rest of the world in the past twenty years.
This year, the world is adjusting to Brexit and the change of leadership in the United States, and the global economic outlook may be less than rosy, growth may be sluggish. How Hong Kong will adapt the changes, and adapt to circumstances, and to seize emerging opportunities?
All that, what is the implication to the rest of the world and to all of us in Hawaii?
